Step onto the hallowed fairways of PGA Aroeira No. 1, a course so iconic it has earned the moniker "The Wentworth of Lisbon." Nestled within a protected 345-hectare pine forest just south of the capital, this Frank Pennink masterpiece offers an immersive nature experience where towering trees frame every hole, demanding surgical precision over raw power. As a former host of the Portuguese Open, the layout tests your strategic mettle with its undulating greens and recently refurbished bunkers, all while maintaining a serene, secluded atmosphere. Whether you’re navigating its tight doglegs or enjoying its prestigious PGA National status, a round here provides a quintessential Portuguese championship experience that rewards thoughtful play and rewards you with stunning forest vistas.

Experience a masterclass in parkland design at Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club, a consistent fixture in Continental Europe's Top 100 rankings and a standout highlight of any Lisbon-area golf tour. Crafted by the renowned architect Rocky Roquemore, this 6,036-meter, par-72 course is celebrated for its immaculate, true-rolling greens and a layout that winds seamlessly through 300 acres of mature pines and wildflowers against the backdrop of the Arrábida Mountains. Your round begins with a varied front nine, featuring the picturesque 8th hole where a lake guards the green, and culminates in a more demanding back nine highlighted by the signature 16th, a daunting 178-meter par 3 over water. Between the meticulously manicured fairways and the warm, "country club" atmosphere of the Casa de Campo restaurant, Quinta do Peru offers the perfect blend of technical challenge and tranquil escape for golfers of all skill levels.
Royal Course rated #15 in Portugal by Golf Digest (2024)
Experience the ultimate in cliff-top drama at the Vale do Lobo Royal Course, home to perhaps the most photographed hole in world golf. Designed by the legendary Sir Henry Cotton and later refined by Rocky Roquemore, this par-72 layout is a thrilling journey through pine forests and along shimmering lakes, but it is the iconic 16th hole that defines the experience—a nerve-shredding par 3 requiring a long carry over the red sandstone cliffs to a green perched above the Atlantic Ocean. The course demands strategic boldness and precision, rewarding players with spectacular panoramic views and pristine, fast-rolling fairways. A staple of any luxury Algarve itinerary, the Royal Course combines high-stakes championship golf with a scenic grandeur that ensures your round is as memorable as it is challenging.
Stay at the five-star Dona Filipa Hotel for a quintessential luxury golf retreat in the heart of the Algarve's exclusive Vale do Lobo resort. Famed for its traditional Portuguese charm and recently refurbished elegant interiors, this beachfront sanctuary offers guests exclusive access and privileged tee times at the world-renowned San Lorenzo Golf Course, located just a 10-minute complimentary shuttle ride away. When not on the fairways, you can relax in sophisticated rooms and suites featuring private balconies with Atlantic Ocean or golf course views, or enjoy the hotel's premium amenities, including a heated outdoor pool, floodlit tennis courts, and a private area on the golden sands of Vale do Lobo Beach. With fine dining at the Dom Duarte Grill and a refined atmosphere at the Duques Lounge Bar, the Dona Filipa provides a perfect blend of high-end hospitality and proximity to some of Europe's most prestigious championship courses.
Ocean Course Rated #10 in Portugal by Golf Digest (2024)
Prepare for a sensory masterpiece at the Vale do Lobo Ocean Course, where Henry Cotton’s visionary design meets the raw beauty of the Algarve coastline. This par-73 layout is a tale of two landscapes, beginning with undulating fairways that weave through scented umbrella pines before opening up to some of the most iconic ocean-front holes in the world. The back nine offers a breathtaking stretch where the emerald greens sit in stark contrast to the ochre cliffs and the deep blue of the Atlantic, culminating in the spectacular 11th and 14th holes that play directly alongside the beach. Combining strategic challenge with unrivaled photographic opportunities, a round on the Ocean Course is an essential experience for any golfer who appreciates a layout that is as aesthetically stunning as it is technically rewarding.

Today we elevate the tour to new heights at Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, consistently ranked as the No. 1 course in Portugal and a true masterpiece by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. Tucked away in the pristine eastern Algarve foothills, this "Signature" layout offers an ultra-exclusive experience where every hole is a private sanctuary, cleverly designed so you rarely see another flight during your round. The course is a visual and technical triumph, featuring wide, carpet-like fairways, intricate bunkering, and a series of challenging water hazards that demand both power and finesse. Beyond the world-class conditions, the experience is defined by unrivaled service, from the personalized bag handling and top-tier practice facilities to the decadent 19th-hole atmosphere at the Vistas Clubhouse.
A Day to Relax or Explore
Today is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Unwind at Hotel Dona Filipa with a leisurely morning by the pool, a wellness treatment or a stroll along beautiful Vale do Lobo Beach. Those wishing to explore may visit nearby Loulé, known for its Moorish-inspired market, cobbled old town and traditional artisan shops. For a more immersive taste of the Algarve, consider a market visit and cataplana cooking experience, combining regional ingredients, local wine and one of southern Portugal’s most celebrated dishes.

Regarded as one of the crown jewels of the Algarve, San Lorenzo Golf Course offers an elite experience characterized by its exclusive access for guests of the Dona Filipa Hotel and its stunning location within the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Designed by Joseph Lee and Rocky Roquemore, this par-72 championship layout is famous for its figure-eight design that seamlessly transitions from shaded umbrella pine forests to breathtaking seaside stretches along saltwater lagoons. Golfers must navigate significant natural hazards, including the signature 6th hole—a demanding dogleg hugging the marshland—and the world-renowned 18th hole, which requires a nerve-wracking approach over water to a semi-island green. With its panoramic views of the Atlantic and a habitat teeming with over 70 bird species, San Lorenzo is a mandatory stop for any connoisseur seeking a blend of high-stakes strategy and pristine coastal beauty.
Discover the Algarve Your Way
Enjoy another unhurried day to experience the Algarve beyond the fairways. Join a boat excursion through the lagoons and barrier islands of Ria Formosa Natural Park, perhaps stopping in a traditional island community before enjoying a fresh seafood lunch in Olhão. Alternatively, spend the morning browsing Loulé’s lively Saturday market, explore Faro’s atmospheric Old Town, or remain close to the hotel for a relaxing day at the beach, by the pool or at the wellness centre.

Hello, I’m Mike Otter, founder and operator of GTC Golf Tour Company Ltd.
I was raised in the beautiful lakeside city of Kelowna, British Columbia. My wife, Brenda, and I are proud parents of two grown children and grateful grandparents to three wonderful grandchildren. After a rewarding career in wholesale distribution, I turned my focus to two lifelong passions — golf and travel — and founded GTC Golf Tour Company Ltd.
Golf has been part of my life since I was twelve. I had the privilege of playing collegiate golf in Louisiana and continue to compete in regional and national senior events. Like many devoted golfers, I still believe my best round lies ahead.
At GTC Golf Tour Company, we curate a select number of first-class tours each year, bringing passionate golfers to some of the world’s most celebrated courses and destinations. Every journey is thoughtfully designed and carefully managed, allowing you to relax, enjoy exceptional golf, and experience each destination to its fullest.
